"We kept talking with people all the time, almost non-stop. There was strong interest in us and other Chinese CROs." The meeting served as a great source of information and leads, and the U.S. office was left with a unexpectedly large job of following up, said Bill St.John, who is in charge of business development for the U.S. branch. St.John said he was confident that at least some of those leads would bloom into contracts. Though he was hesitant to mention names, Gong said that a few top-level managers from government regulatory agencies and leading CROs visited Joinn's booth. "I guess we're finally getting noticed, you know, finally coming up on the industry's radar ... not to imply it wasn't nice simply talking shop and getting to know them a little better." "I wish we had kept better stats on our booth visits," said Dr. Alice Tian, the newest member at the U.S. branch and formerly a study director at Southern Research Institute and MPI Research. "People were eager to talk, and, for me anyway, it was an intense but efficient way -- a real sink-or-swim way -- to get up to speed on what Joinn is doing." Dr. Tian's role is to plan and monitor the firm's GLP studies. Joinn's U.S. branch plans also to staff a booth at the upcoming 2009 BIO International Convention, May 18–21 in Atlanta , Ga. "This event will give a chance to build off our momentum," Gong said.
